Dear Fox Fifth Graders,

SOLpass.org and jlab are excellent review sites for the science SOL test. Have fun learning science!
Coming up this week we are continuing our review of fourth grade science. There will be quizzes frequently. The main tests for the nine weeks will be released SOL tests. All of these are available online-that's where I get them!
Many children were scrambling to get some extra credit at the end of the 3rd nine weeks. There are four opportunities during each report period! See below. Take advantage of it early.

  • Extra Credit Science in the News
Science is an ever-changing and exciting field. As fifth graders we need to keep up with the changes that will affect our future. Here's the plan:
  • Every two weeks read an article about something exciting in the field of science. Write a brief summary (2 or 3 paragraphs) about the article and turn it in on Friday. Two of the dates are Thursdays because you aren't in school that Friday. These summaries will give you an extra point on your final grade each nine weeks, giving you the ability to add four points to your report card grade. Below are the dates your summaries are due.You can email your summary to me at cbrown@richmond.k12.va.usor give it to me personally. If you don't have computer access at home let me know and we will work out time for you to read an article each two weeks.
  • Due Dates
  • Sept. 16 and 30
  • Oct. 7 and 21
  • Nov. 4 and 18
  • Dec. 2 and 16
  • Jan. 6 and 20
  • Feb. 2 (Thurs) and 17
  • Mar. 2 and 15 (Thurs.)
  • Apr. 6 and 20
  • May 4 and 18
  • June 1 and 15

  • Here are some websites you may use, but you may select science articles from others sources as well. I have plenty in class that you may borrow.
